PF Chang's

Recently, we made a stop at PF Chang's in Middleton. While I'm pretty picky about our decisions regarding Chinese restaurants, this one is consistently good. I know what you are thinking - no kidding, it's a chain - but we can count on it when we have a taste for Chinese and we don't have a lot of time. This time however we stopped in for lunch - which is really my point. They have a specific lunch menu which was surprising large. The lunch entree included a salad or egg drop soup. The egg drop soup was very good and the Caesar salad tasty too. We ordered orange peel chicken, sweet/sour chicken and honey chicken. The entree portion was large for your typical lunch. Swapping out fried rice for white or brown is a additional for a minimal cost. Now, I have to confess my dining partners ordered a side of the crispy green beans (are you surprised?) so I guess that could have factored in to the fact we were stuffed when we left. If you haven't sampled them you should - a real treat. The waiter was extremely pleasant and I personally like the atmosphere and decor. Needless to say, we didn't need dinner. Pretty easy to give this a high mark. Simply put, a good stop when you are in the mood for Chinese!

As restaurant owners we're constantly striving to ensure we deliver top notch customer service and delicious food to accompany it! In our business, we look around us to see who is doing it well or better than us, glean inspiration and learn from others along the way. As Madison locals, our favorite city provides lots of opportunities for food: whether is be formal or casual. We share our experiences and give you our recommendations on things we've tried.
For starters:
Ruths' Chris Steakhouse, Middleton

Our favorite is the filet - always better than the time before which amazes me. You feel like a king or queen (or Prince in the case of Blaine) in this place. CONSISTENT - both food and service. They have the service thing down pat. And the delicious food is a given. You would think you eat there 3x times a week the way they treat you when you walk in. This is our go to place for special celebrations, birthdays or just a Saturday nite hankering for a steak! A+
ps...the wedge salad is classic and never disappoints!

hmmmm...not so good. We were so excited to try this place. We've heard they have amazing burgers and as burger experts we thought we'd better try it out. The Milwaukee location had been on Food Wars so we thought this outta be the place! Disappointing to say the least. Food was okay, and service was not impressive outside of our waitress who was super sweet. I won't go into details or bore you but as restaurant owners I would be embarrassed if this was my joint. The manager AND the hostess both walked around a bottle of window cleaner that had fallen on the floor in front of the hostess stand. The food was standard burger/bar type food - but they seemed to be in a bit of a pickle about who they wanted to be - sports bar or family restaurant/bar. Blaine liked his burger...Todd and I, not so much. The cheese curds tasted like they were deep fried in the onion rings. If that happens at our place...someone tell US! I did like the fried onions that came with my burger and the fried pickle was pretty tasty.
We waited waaayyyy too long for burgers - and while the overhead bomb dropped peanuts on us and held us over, it just didn't seem to have all excitement/punch that we've heard about. I did find some inspiration on their decor...we've been looking for a cow decal for our walls and I think I have a new idea on how to achieve that. Good news...we had a night out in downtown Madison. Good to get out and see State Street every once in awhile. Rating: C-
